What Is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning, or blading, is a no-downtime procedure that clears away the damaged, outermost layer of skin to refresh the complexion. It can be performed as a stand-alone procedure or to complement additional skin treatments.
Dermaplaning can address many common skin concerns, including:
- Sun damage
- Fine lines
- Dryness
- Acne scars
- Dullness
- “Peach fuzz,” or vellus hair
Ideal Candidates for Dermaplaning
Healthy adults of all skin types can be candidates for dermaplaning. The best way to find out if this treatment is the most effective option for resolving your skin concerns is to meet with Dr. Houck for a consultation. Dr. Houck will evaluate your skin and ask you about your medical history and your goals for treatment in order to determine if dermaplaning is right for you.
What to Expect During a Dermaplaning Procedure
Your treatment will be performed on-site at our state-of-the-art medical practice. Most dermaplaning treatments take 30 minutes or less.
During a dermaplaning treatment, patients may experience a tingling sensation. Most patients tolerate the procedure with ease. However, a topical numbing solution can be applied at the start of your appointment to ensure your comfort.
Dermaplaning involves exfoliation with the use of a sterile surgical blade. The blade is guided across the surface of the skin to remove scar tissue, dead cells, vellus hair, and debris.
A new, fresh layer of skin is revealed after dermaplaning. A soothing serum will be applied to the area at the end of your treatment, followed by sunscreen.
What to Expect After Dermaplaning
There is no recovery period associated with dermaplaning, but you must be diligent about protecting the skin from exposure to sunlight in the weeks after your procedure. The newly exposed skin cells are easily damaged by the sun, so it is important to always wear sunscreen when going outside.
What to Expect During the Procedure
Some patients notice improvements immediately after dermaplaning. In other cases, temporary redness can occur after the procedure. This symptom will subside within a few days to reveal your more radiant complexion. Regular dermaplaning sessions every three to four weeks are recommended to maintain results.
How Much Does Dermaplaning in Bonita Springs Cost?
Every dermaplaning procedure performed at Houck Dermatology is unique to the patient’s skin type and cosmetic goals, so pricing can vary. The details of your procedure, including the price, will be reviewed with you during your consultation.
