What Is a Chemical Peel?
Exfoliation is a fundamental skin process that removes the top layers of dead, dry skin cells to expose newer, younger skin underneath. Chemical peels are a wonderful option for exfoliation that can be customized to your individual needs. Chemical peels remain a top choice for patients looking for safety, reliable results, and the ability to modify the depth of the exfoliation to the amount of correction they need.
Peels use a chemical solution in a controlled manner to loosen the outermost layers of skin. The chosen peel solution is applied to the skin and left on for a set amount of time before it is removed or neutralized. Some peels allow you to see a brighter complexion immediately, while others require several days of peeling and/or flaking before your new skin is revealed.
Benefits of Chemical Peels
Chemical peels can be used to treat a variety of common skin issues and concerns ranging from aesthetic issues like fine lines to issues like acne and rosacea. Depending on the depth of the peel selected, your treatment can address the following concerns:
- Fine lines
- Pigmentation irregularities
- Acne scarring
- Acne
- Rough skin texture
- Uneven skin tone
- Signs of sun damage
Is a Chemical Peel Right for Me?
Our Aesthetician will take the time to assess your skin before treatment to determine whether a chemical peel might meet your needs and desired results. With a diversity of peel options to choose from, we will also be able to tailor your procedure to your skin type, tone, and concerns.
Types of Chemical Peels Available
Chemical peels come in three basic categories; superficial, medium, and deep. We offer superficial and medium peels in our office, as deep peels require anesthesia. Our diversity of peels allows us to address a broad range of patient needs.
Superficial Peels
Also known as light or lunchtime peels, these chemical solutions usually contain active ingredients like salicylic acid, glycolic acid and lactic acid. The primary purpose of a superficial peel is to rejuvenate the skin and restore a healthy, hydrated glow. The treatment may also minimize the appearance of minor skin blemishes. These treatments are mild enough to repeat regularly, which is recommended to extend your results.
